This trek is relatively easy, making it ideal for beginners and families, but the 3,210-meter elevation at Poon Hill still offers a satisfying challenge.

The best time to trek Poon Hill is during the spring (March-May) when the rhododendrons are in full bloom or in autumn (September-November) when the skies are clear, offering the best views of the mountains.

2. Ghandruk Village Trek

For those looking for a quick and easy introduction to trekking in Nepal, the Ghandruk Village Trek is perfect. The trek starts from Nayapul and is a gentle, scenic walk to Ghandruk, one of the largest and most beautiful Gurung villages in the Annapurna region. 

Over three days, you’ll experience rich local culture and enjoy spectacular views of Annapurna South (7,219 meters) and Machapuchare (6,993 meters), all while walking through verdant forests and terraced farmlands. The trek is short, easy, and suitable for beginners or families, requiring minimal fitness as the highest point is only 1,940 meters.

Like other Annapurna treks, the best seasons are autumn and spring. In spring, the trail is alive with blooming flowers, while autumn provides crisp, clear skies for uninterrupted mountain views. Ghandruk is a well-developed village with excellent lodges, offering modern amenities, traditional meals, and a warm cultural experience. 

As this is an easy trek with relatively low elevation, there are no significant risks of altitude sickness. Comfortable hiking shoes and light clothing for the day, with warmer layers for the evenings, are sufficient for this short trek.

3. Dhampus Trek

If you’re extremely short on time but still want a Himalayan trekking experience, the Dhampus Trek is an excellent choice. Starting from Phedi, just a short drive from Pokhara, this 2-day trek takes you through scenic forests and small villages before reaching Dhampus, a quaint village perched on a ridge. 

From here, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli (6,441 meters), and Machapuchare (6,993 meters). This trek is incredibly easy and ideal for anyone, regardless of fitness level, making it suitable for families, beginners, or those looking for a quick getaway into nature. With a maximum elevation of only 1,650 meters, it is perfect for those who want a low-altitude trek that still offers stunning views.

Spring and autumn are ideal for the Dhampus Trek, though it can be trekked year-round due to its low elevation. Even in winter, the views are beautiful, and the trek remains easy and accessible. 

The village of Dhampus has a few basic lodges and tea houses that offer cozy rooms, hot meals, and essential amenities. As it is a popular short trek, accommodation is easily available, even on short notice. 

Since this is a very low-risk trek in terms of altitude and difficulty, no special precautions are needed. However, be prepared for the potential of slippery paths during the monsoon season (June-August).

4. Mardi Himal Trek (Short Route)

For trekkers looking for a slightly more challenging short trek, the Mardi Himal Trek offers an off-the-beaten-path experience with jaw-dropping views of the Annapurna Range. 

The trek begins at Kande and winds through rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, and rugged ridges to the Mardi Himal Base Camp, reaching an altitude of 4,500 meters. This trek is moderately difficult, so it requires a higher level of fitness than the other short treks mentioned. 

However, its relatively short duration (4-5 days) and incredible views of Annapurna South, Machapuchare, and Mardi Himal (5,587 meters) make it well worth the effort. As one of the lesser-known treks, it also offers a quieter, more peaceful experience than the busier trails.

The best times to trek Mardi Himal are during spring and autumn. During these seasons, you can expect clear skies, excellent visibility, and pleasant trekking conditions. The Mardi Himal route has basic tea houses that offer comfortable accommodation and meals. 

However, compared to the more popular treks like Poon Hill, the facilities are more rustic and less developed, giving you a more authentic trekking experience. Since this trek reaches altitudes of up to 4,500 meters, there is a risk of altitude sickness. Make sure to acclimatize properly, especially if you’re coming from lower elevations, and consult your guide if you feel any symptoms.
